Provides some examples of our past web-site services
AUSTEGA OFFERS tailored services in areas where it can offer value.
Please visit the sites of some of our clients to see how we have responded
to their particular goals and needs.
Capital
Insight Pty Ltd, a management consulting company, wanted its first
web-site to be promotional but low maintenance and able to be maintained
in-house. Consequently we developed the site in Microsoft FrontPage
so that it could be maintained easily by Capital Insight staff who
were familiar with Microsoft Office. It was developed without cascading
style sheets as at that stage 25% of browsers would have been adversely
affected. Eighteen months later Capital Insight wanted a password-protected
intranet for staff and industry news with decentralised authoring.
We explored the available pre-packaged content management systems
for them, but they decided against the constraints of such systems.
Consequently we met their needs with the establishment of a secure
sub-web and some dedicated training of selected staff to use FrontPage
to author to these private pages. We also converted their public site
to cascading style sheets now that this is well-recognised core technology.
Arthurian
Association of Australia Inc., an incorporated association supporting
Australians interested in Arthurian period literature and history.
The Association has relied solely on variable volunteer support in
the past and in October 2001 decided it needed a professional low-budget
small web-site to convey its image to its targeted audience. Austega
arranged domain registration for the Association and built a low-maintenance
promotional site to form a solid basis for growth while still linking
to some legacy volunteer web pages. A UK artist, Ian Brown, described
the new site in the following words: "Well, during a weekend
full of positive feedback and inspiration, I've just enjoyed the highlight
by visiting the wonderful new website of the Arthurian Association
of Australia. What an excellent, clear and inspiring website. Well
done, David. It's a sure winner."
NSW
Association for Gifted & Talented Children Inc. seeks to support
gifted children in NSW largely by providing information and coordinating
events. The Association relies heavily on the variable efforts of
a range of volunteers to supplement part time paid staff and the office-bearers.
Relying on memberships for most of their income, there is also the
issue of the web-site promoting and not competing with the print magazine
and other services offered by the Association to its financial members.
After the site had deteriorated due to limited maintenance, Austega
took over the hosting and maintenance roles for this large 300+ page,
400,000 hit pa site at the end of September 2001 and has:
streamlined the site to reduce maintenance and increase consistency
of design and navigation
established controlled and low cost decentralized authoring
options for office-bearers, paid staff, and volunteers, and
added database and email request functionality to its conference
and borrowing library, and
boosted its freshness and value to site visitors (and advertisers)
by maintaining its current news items.
The NSWAGTC Administration Officer says: "Wow! I'm impressed
- it looks great and the email request function is fantastic!!!
Thanks for all your work on this. The results are great and I'm
sure it will prove to be a valuable service for members."
Gifted
Resource Centre, a non-profit site providing information to the
gifted community in Australia. We answered our client's needs for
a low maintenance static information site by redesigning the site
with cascading style sheets, a standard template, and by streamlining
and taking over the webmastering tasks. We have also been asked by
our client to take over the hosting of the site to reduce their costs.
My client's response: "David, the quality of your work far
surpasses anything that I had envisaged. Thank you."
Federation
of Parents & Citizens Associations of NSW, the peak parent
body for the NSW state school system. When their previous
site became unmaintainable partly with turnover of staff, the
P&C Federation asked us to reclaim control over the domain and
to redesign the site to support the Federation's current goals of
dynamic information flows for its state-wide volunteer councillors
and more than 2000 affiliate organisations as well as for the general
public. As well as meeting its cost focus with cost-effective web
and email hosting services, we provided decentralised authoring and
password-protected areas through FrontPage subwebs, email discussion
list support, support for large numbers of email mailboxes or alias/forwarding
arrangements, and support for affiliate subsites. If Federation wishes
us to do so, we will also provide a proactive content seeking webmaster
and promotion role with the goal of achieving solid recognition for
the brand value potential of this site name.
Gifted
& Creative Services Australia Pty Ltd, a commercial entity
offering counselling, professional develoment and other services to
the gifted community in Australia. We provided a complete website
design and development role for this new entity. Initially this is
a static information site that needed to express the creativity and
visual focus of the principal. In time it is expected to develop to
provide some automated and personalised processing of inquiries. We
also provide webmastering and web and email hosting services. My client
tells me: "As usual, I am blown away by your work.... I really
like this layout and your choice of words are very effective."
One of their reviewers: "I am very impressed with your new
site. The colour and 'shape' are very effective... You seem to have
found a gem in the site designer..."
RiskMS
Pty Ltd, a risk management software company associated with Austega.
RiskMS is a browser-based risk management software prototype for complex
organizations. It relies on Active Server Pages and connectivity to
an SQL database. It uses password protected user logins with the pages
accessible and overall experience of the RiskMS system heavily tailored
or personalized to the particular user. The prototype is not currently
publicly available but can be demonstrated on request.
Austega
Pty Ltd, our own site, which demonstrates many of the web services
and techniques we offer our clients. It also presented a challenge
in bringing together a range of disparate strands and activities.
We adopted a front splash page with most of the updated information
appearing at the secondary level strand top pages. To avoid the main
home page being completely static we rotate a sequence of rich visual
images. We offset the problem of the slower loading times this involves
for those with dial-up connections by ensuring that the navigation
bar and text menus load immediately.
