Change?

Why should we? Why are we in such a rush to change everything? In particular to change ourselves. Is there no-one out there happy with the way they are?

And while the silence continues, is this general discontent a matter of a shoddy species or an exaggerated dream?

Do we ask too much of ourselves? Of each other? Is this a biological or a cultural thing? Did medieval down-trodden serfs accept their lot with less angst than today's middle management? Do buddhist priests get as passionate as christian evangelicals?

Or is it a biological mechanism to ensure that the species changes and adapts to the changing environment? After all what good would illiterate mammoth hunters be in Australia today? Except in parliament perhaps...
