She smiled, then pursed her lips, and switched her weight to one leg, bemused. The other two talked earnestly on, to each other and to her, including her in their deliberations, accepting her eye movements, the slight shift of her head, and then of her body as her acquiescence, her willingness to go along with their emerging plan.
I caught her eye briefly in all of this, and imagined that one of the bemused inklings was for me.
And then the three girls were off, another part of the shopping mall attracting these friends with its post-Christmas sales.
