Where in the world are we?
It is 24 January and we are moving through
underground caverns of incredible peace and beauty. The only sounds
are the lapping of water from the movement of our boat through
the still underground lakes, and the occasional pole thrust our
guide uses on the walls. There is no motor, no commentary, and
no-one else in the caverns. It is eery and magical, with wonderful
illumination. We are very glad we drove this far. Only mapped
in the last fifty years and still without an end being found,
these caverns open to the sea and were supposedly used as a hide-out
for resistance groups during the Second World War.
