Jessie (or Janet) McNEILL
was a handsewer of muslin, born in 1816 in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland,
the daughter of William McNEILL (a sailor) and Margaret FULLARTON. Her son John McNEILL
grew up in the household of Daniel McKENZIE, at
the same address as his son Samuel McKENZIE and family, including daughter
Ann. Eventually John McNEILL married Ann McKENZIE.
John was a coal miner and later a dynamite instructor, who died in 1887. After his death, Ann emigrated to Sydney, Australia with their children:
- Samuel McNEILL who married Mary DILLON
- William McNEILL who died aged 58 without marrying
- Margaret McBride McNEILL who married William Morrison SIMPSON
- Sarah Park McNEILL who married Berend VISSER
- John McNEILL who married Mary O'BRIEN and became a Member of the NSW Parliament (MLA)
- Annie Barbara McNEILL who married William Edward ETHERINGTON
- Alexander McKenzie McNEILL who married Annie LLOYD
- Daniel McNEILL who died aged 8
- Daisy Jessie McNEILL who married George William Daniel PAYNE
