Jessie McNEILL was a handsewer of muslin, born in 1816 in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland, the daughter of William McNEILL and Margaret FULLARTON. Her son John McNEILL grew up in the household of Daniel McKENZIE, at the same address as his son Samuel McKENZIE and family, including daughter Ann. Eventually in 1861 in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, John married Ann.
John was a coal miner and later a dynamite instructor, who died in 1887. After his death, Ann emigrated to Australia with their children:
