4 - normal, if playing 4th highest against a NT contract
if and only if the hand has outside entries to allow the little cards
to be played once other hands are out, subsequent play of 3 and 2 clearly
indicates the length.
2 - low from length headed by an honour, doesn't provide
any easy way of subsequently showing extra length and may give away
an unnecessary trick with others having short holdings
3 - normal, if playing 3rds and 5ths against a NT
contract if and only if the hand has outside entries to allow the little
cards to be played once other hands are out, subsequent play of 2 clearly
indicates the length.
6 - normal against suit contracts, playing 2nd which
is hopefully high enough to not suggest holding an honour, subsequently
play of lower card indicates even number of cards held or of 9 if middle-up-down
(MUD) used to confirm lack of honour.
